THETFORD RECYCLING

The long-awaited changes at the Thetford Recycling Center will begin Saturday, October 1st.  On that weekend we will start our new system which will be much simpler for users, with only four separate material sorts, hopefully resulting in greater participation. The reuse shed and trash collection will continue as before.  The new sorts will include:

1. All paper products, including mixed paper, glossies, newsprint, cardboard and anything that rips.
2. All glass - any color, plate glass, porcelain, ceramics, drinking glass, etc.
3. Plastic (including #1 & 2 bottles), Tin and Aluminum
4. Scrap Metal

If you have any questions about the new recycling system, please contact Frank Bonnett at the Recycling Center, or at 785-2543.

The event will be held at the Thetford Elementary School from 10am – 2pm. Refreshments will be served and it is open to all surrounding communities. FROM THE SCHOOL BOARD

It is with deep regret that the School Board announces that Bryant Patten will be resigning from the Board.  He has the opportunity to work for the Orange East Supervisory Union which is the Supervisory Union to which Thetford belongs.  In order to avoid any conflict of interest or appearance of a conflict of interest, Bryant is stepping down from the Board.

The School Board is looking for someone to fill Bryant's seat until elections can be held in March 2006.  If you are interested in this position, please contact Denise Froehlich (785-2097 or denise.froehlich@valley.net) by October 4th.

TA NOTES

The school year is in full swing already, and Thetford Academy will host its annual Parents Back to School night on Thursday, October 6, starting at 7pm in Anderson Hall. Faculty and staff will be on hand as parents walk through their students' schedules and have a taste of life at TA.

On Monday, October 18, parents will also have a chance to learn about one of the aspects of life after TA. "Paying for College" will start at 6:30pm in the White Building.

The first "Talk with TA'" of the 2005-2006 year will be held on Thursday, October 26, at 6pm in the TA library. Please join the Trustees for a question and information session. The quarterly meeting of the Board of Trustees will follow, and the public is invited to attend.

Volunteers are needed!!! October 29 TA will once again be hosting the Vermont Cross Country Championships, followed on November 12 by the New England Championships. This is a huge undertaking for the community of Thetford and involves the efforts of many. Please contact David McGinn, Athletic Director, at 785-4805, to volunteer or for more information.

TA's senior class recently held a benefit dance and will be making a donation of $500.00 to the Katrina Relief Fund.  In addition, they have challenged each of the other classes at TA to add to the total by also donating money.

Two TA students are organizing a community dinner in late October/early November to benefit the Katrina Relief Fund.  Katy Perry and Amanda Brown are looking for volunteers to help with the effort.  If you are willing, please contact Katy at 333-9487, Amanda Brown at 765-4232, or Wendy Cole, TA Community Relations Coordinator, at 785-2698.

HAVE YOU NOTICED A TRUCK WITH ALABAMA PLATES AROUND TOWN?

Here's a switch in the direction of aid to good causes…. Dr. and Mrs. George Ingram of Alabama have loaned their truck to the PuppeTree Inc., a non-profit puppet company housed in the Strohmier's Theatre, in Thetford.
The PuppeTree will use that truck to give free Shadow Puppet performances of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow at the Upper Valley Arts Association and at Thetford Elementary. We will also use the truck to transport the performance to the Parish Player's Grange Theatre on November 12 and 13 to raise money for our Aunt Voncile and her family, from New Orleans, who were made homeless by the Hurricane.

The truck will also transport The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and 3 cast members to Rivendale for a Hurricane Katrina fund raiser. We will also be bringing the show to 7 other schools and Recreation Departments in the Upper Valley around Halloween.

Truly, generosity can bridge all our problems. The PuppeTree's Board of Directors send a special thanks to George and Monta Ingram for investing in our community. The Alabama state slogan is "Stars Fall on Alabama."

See if you can spot that license plate!
