SELECTBOARD NOTES

Thetford Town Plan
The Selectboard is working with the Planning Commission and Two Rivers Ottaquechee Regional Commission to revise and update our town's five year plan. The Planning Commission is also seeking volunteers to work as an ad hoc committee on updating zoning bylaws. If you are interested in being on either a planning or zoning committee, please contact Planning Commission Chair, Sean Mullen at 785-4373.

Thetford Conservation Areas
The Selectboard has accepted the conserved lands of the Post Mills Natural Area and the Charles Hughes Trust in Thetford Center. A conservation management plan has been accepted for the Post Mills Natural Area and another is being developed for the Hughes Property. If you have suggestions or an interest in developing the plans, please contact Conservation Commission Chair, Jennifer Davey at 333-9607.

 

TREASURE ISLAND BEACH PARTY

 

Get out your tropical prints and come do the macarena at the third annual beach party FRIDAY, AUGUST 12 from 12-3PM. 

Everyone is invited; including those from surrounding towns, swim lesson participants, etc. 

Bring a dish to the 12PM island potluck cookout, and join the fun! 

 

There will be a DJ and dancing, children's games and more. 

 

The rain date for this special event will be Monday, August 15.

THETFORD’S LIBRARIES

 

LATHAM LIBRARY

 

The refurbished Latham Library will re-open August 1st.  Please stop by and check out your improved library.

Library hours are:
Mondays 2:00 - 8:00
Tuesdays - Fridays 2:00 - 5:00
Saturdays 10:00 - 1:00

 

PEABODY LIBRARY

 

The Peabody Library in Post Mills is open:

 

Tuesdays 5-8pm

Wednesdays 2-8pm and

Saturdays 10-1 (through August 27th only)

TA NOTES

 

School starts for TA students this year on Wednesday, August 31. New students entering the Academy will have the opportunity to tour the school and review their schedules on Thursday, August 25, at 7:30pm.


TA welcomes three new staff members this year. Mirka Zapletal joins the history department, and Kim Scopetti will be working in the main office as a secretary. Frank Hoffman, already a TA parent, is the new Director of Development.

 

SCHOOL BOARD UPDATE

The school board is pleased to welcome two new teachers to the TES faculty.

Abby Logan, a resident of Plainfield, NH graduated from Kimball Union Academy in 1999 and Brown University in 2003 with a concentration in history. She just graduated from the Upper Valley Teacher Institute this spring and will be teaching third grade at TES.

Lacey Smith, a resident of Fair Haven, VT, graduated from Lyndon State College with a major in early childhood and elementary education and a minor in psychology. She will be teaching second grade at TES.

Please join us this fall in welcoming Abby and Lacey to the community.

 

THETFORD HILL STATE PARK

Please note the following regulation: Dogs must be on a leash at all times in the State Park. This includes all trails that are in the park.

ANNUAL THETFORD VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT LABOR DAY BBQ

 

September 5, 2005 - Post Mills Fire Station
Parade begins at 11:30am
BBQ will begin as soon as the parade ends
Special Events this year:  Fire safety information, Fire safety and sprinkler trailer, fire truck rides, flea market.

The Thetford Vol. Fire Department was awarded a fire prevention grant through the Federal Emergency Management Agency that provides a smoke detector for each Thetford resident under the age of 14 and over the age of 65.  The purpose of this grant to to increase the number of working smoke detectors in each home in Thetford and provide additional fire prevention and safety information to the community the fire department serves.  Smoke detectors will be available for distribution at the Labor day BBQ to Thetford residents in the age categories listed above.
