PEABODY LIBRARY

On May 9th at 7pm Jim Schley will be speaking at the Peabody library in Post Mills.

Jim will be speaking about his research and writing of the story of a 19th-century Native American headdress or "warbonnet" that has been in the possession of his ancestors since the early 1870s, and which he and his family are now seeking to return to the descendants of its original bearer.

In addition to being a teacher with Community College of Vermont, Jim is a journalist and poet whose work has been featured on Garrison Keillor's "Writer's Almanac" radio show. He is the new director of The Frost Place, a museum and poetry center at Robert Frost's homestead in Franconia, N.H., and lives in South Strafford, Vermont.

PARISH PLAYERS
and Bill Coons are pleased to offer "Acting Shakespeare" -

A series of classes to study the language of Shakespeare in selected plays and sonnets. Students will learn the acting skills and techniques that are needed to open up the heightened realities and the specific demands of Shakespeare's language.

The class will meet on Wednesday evenings, from 7:00 to 9:30 pm, for six weeks.
The classes begin on May 3 and end on June 7. The tuition for the classes is $230.

The classes will be taught by Bill Coons, who recently directed the Parish Player's production of Passion Play.

Coons says: "Acting Shakespeare" is a class that will give students the chance to make a personal connection to some of the most glorious work ever written for the theatre.  We will not approach the language of Shakespeare as one might approach a pulpit or some sacred space, but we will approach it as language written to be performed.  It's language which is the basis for dramatic action.  There's no requirement (or even expectation) that anyone in the class should have a lot of acting experience or a distinct familiarity with the plays of Shakespeare.  What is required is an eager curiosity and a willingness to discover what the language of Shakespeare can do.  My goal is not to turn people in the class into seasoned "Shakespearean Actors," but rather to create an environment where people can have fun, challenge themselves, and learn something new, no matter what their level of experience.

If you'd like to register or receive further information, call Bill Coons at (802) 333-4591 or contact him at billcoons@mail.com.
