RECREATION DEPARTMENT UPDATE

Basketball for grades 3-6: registration is open and will close on Nov 7th. $25 fee per student. Any registrations received after this date will be assessed a $10 late fee. See website for detailed practice schedules. Game schedule will be available before Thanksgiving vacation.

Ski Program: Registration is open and will close on December 10th.  $70 fee per student, $25 for those with a season pass, includes bus to the Dartmouth Skiway from Thetford Elementary School. Open to all Thetford Residents in Kindergarten through 6th Grade. All registrations received after this date will be assessed a $20 late fee. 

Karate:

For K-6 grade: Wednesdays from 3:30-4:30 

Nov 5 - Dec 17.  $30 for six sessions.

For 7-12 grade: Mondays from 6-7 PM Nov 3 - Dec 22.  $25 per month. 

Both classes will be held at Green Mountain Dojo.

Also coming in November & December...digital photography, cooking/baking & babysitting classes.  Details were not available at the time of this submission, but will be coming!

Button Up Vermont Home Energy Savings Workshop
Saturday, November 1, doors open for refreshments and literature at 9:30am, program begins at 10:00am sharp
Thetford Hill Congregational Church.

This free 2-hour workshop will teach you how to save energy in your home, provide information on the greatest energy saving opportunities, health and safety concerns related to tightening your home, and tell you where to find technical and financial resources to get started.  Come learn about the fundamentals of how buildings lose energy and do-it-yourself opportunities for saving energy, including behavioral changes and low-cost weatherization measures.

NEW HOURS AT THE RECYCLING CENTER!

For your convenience, there will no longer be any "winter hours" and "summer hours" at the Thetford Recycling Center. The Center will now be open 8:30 AM ‘til Noon EVERY WEEK, year round.

Let's Dance, usually at Rices Mills, will host a Mostly Waltz evening with live music at Barrett Hall in South Strafford Friday Dec 5 7:30pm – 10pm with the music of Jeremiah McLane.

 

English Country Dance in 3/4 time taught throughout the evening and a few Lindy Hop tunes.

CRAFT BAZAAR

There will be a Christmas Craft Bazaar Saturday, November 15th 9am – 2pm at the Post Mills Church organized by Jenny Piper.

Individual crafters will present their wares and the church women will have a bake sale.

A quiche and salad luncheon will be available from 11am - 1pm.

TOP OF THE HILL SALE

The 14th Annual Top of the Hill Sale sponsored by the Ladies Benevolent Society will be held on Saturday, November 22nd from 10am to 2pm at the First Congregational Church on Thetford Hill.

Baked goods, collectibles, jewelry, handcrafts, toys, children's items, stocking stuffers.

TA NOTES

*Thetford Academy's 7th Grade Trip to Washington will host a benefit pasta dinner in Anderson Hall on Saturday, November 1. Dinner will be served from 5:00-7:00pm, and all proceeds support the annual class trip in the spring.


*The Thetford Academy Board of Trustees will meet from 7:00-10:00pm at the Lyme Elementary School on Thursday, November 6. This is the first of three meetings the Board will hold in towns that have partnership agreements with the Academy. The public is invited to attend.


*The Parent Advisory and Advocacy Council will meet Tuesday, November 11, from 7:30-9:00pm in the TA Library. This month's topic will be the Guidance Program at Thetford Academy.


*The TA Fall Play will offer performances Friday-Sunday, November 14-16. Watch the Green for signs with more information about time and location.


*The annual TAAA Crafts Bazaar will be held Friday, November 22, from 9:00am-3:00pm in Anderson Hall. Don't miss this eagerly anticipated opportunity to meet friends and neighbors and get a jump on holiday shopping.


*Thanksgiving recess will be November 27 and 28. Once again this year Thetford Academy takes this opportunity to give thanks to all our wonderful friends and family and wishes everyone a restful time of celebration and reflection.

HISTORIC SATURDAY STROLL · NOV 8TH·10AM
Post Mills Village Sponsored by Thetford Conservation Commission and Thetford Historical Society

Jen Boeri-Boyce from the Thetford Historical Society will lead a walking tour of the Village of Post Mills. We will discuss the history of the village and its buildings as well as the architectural styles.

Do you know any person in town who needs some assistance with rides, gardening, cooking, carpentry, painting, plumbing, house cleaning, transportation or some aspect of their life which is making living in Thetford a difficulty?  If so, TEN has a list of volunteers, ready to assist.

HEALTHY AGING DISCUSSION SERIES
Sunday, November 2: 5PM at the Thetford Center Community Building

Dale Gephart, MD., Thetford Resident, Semi-Retired Geriatrician will speak about “An Operator’s Manual For The Senior Body :What To Do When The Warranty Runs Out.”
This is the first in a discussion series to strengthen community support and awareness of elder needs.

STAGECOACH SCHEDULE

Effective early December, Stagecoach Transportation is adding a third morning and evening trip to their "River Route" with stops each way at the Thetford Park & Ride. This will make 3 morning stops going south:
6:40 a.m., 6:55 a.m., and 7:10 a.m. And 3 afternoon stops coming north: 5:00 p.m., 5:20 p.m. and 5:50 p.m.

BASKETBALL BENEFITS THE FOOD SHELF!

The 5th annual 6th graders vs. TES teachers and staff basketball game will be held on Thursday, Nov. 6, at 6:30pm at Thetford Elementary School.

As always, all proceeds from this event will benefit the Thetford Food Shelf and Heating Assistance Program.

Non-perishable donations will be accepted at the door!  50/50 tickets will be sold and prizes will be awarded for the half court shot. In addition, there will be a raffle for two free one day lift tickets to any Vermont Alpine Ski Resort for the 2008-2009 ski season, AND, two free lift tickets to Whaleback Ski Area also valid for the 2008-2009 ski season.

Come out and have FUN while supporting a GREAT CAUSE. This is an event you can’t miss.

Admission is $4.00 per adult, $2.00 per child (under 15) with a maximum family charge of $15.00.
