DON’T MISS THIS OPPORTUNITY TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN OUR CHILDREN’S EDUCATION!

Friends of Thetford Education will be holding its next meeting on Wednesday, May 19 at 7 pm in the Thetford Elementary School art room. We will be finalizing changes to our funding policy and application and evaluation forms, discussing our bulk mailing and annual appeal, considering online donations, and electing new board members and officers. All are welcome!

FTE is an organization consisting of parents and community members who are dedicated to raising funds for the purpose of enhancing the educational enrichment of our children. Nearly 100% of the money we raise goes toward funding projects, field trips, special equipment, student performances, and other educational opportunities that are not covered by the school’s operating budget. FTE uses a very small amount to cover postage and minor operational expenses.

Attending a meeting will not commit you to anything! Just come along and see what we do. If you have questions, feel free to call Marty Jacobs (Chair) at 785-2606 or email at marty@systemsinsync.com.

DID YOU KNOW?   THETFORD HISTORY

Mary Hosford, who grew up in Thetford, was the first woman to obtain a bachelor's degree from a four-year college in the United States. She was one of three women in the Oberlin College class of 1841, which was the first coeducational college class in the country.  Legend has it that, at graduation, the diplomas were handed out alphabetically, which means that she got her diploma a few minutes before the other two graduating women, Elizabeth Prall and Caroline Rudd.

The daughter of a judge, she later married George Hallenbake, and they had seven children together.  She died in Albany, NY in 1895, just short of her 87th birthday.
