SELECTBOARD NOTES
Land Conservation
The Town has accepted the donation of a 21 acre parcel of Class Two wetlands at
the intersection of Godfrey and Quail John Roads to be preserved as a natural
area. The parcel was donated to the Thetford Conservation Commission rather
than the Nature Conservancy by Salvatore Decola to provide opportunities for
local educational programs.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thetford's Police Chief Joseph Anthony has resigned his position. The Selectboard is working with full-time officer Jim Lanctot and contracting with State Troopers to provide appropriate coverage for Thetford. We wish Mr. Anthony well and thank him for his service to Thetford.

FUEL AND WEATHERIZATION ASSISTANCE
A group of Thetford volunteers is interested in helping to organize improved
winter fuel assistance and home weatherization in town. Weatherization is the
term for reducing heat loss in a home. As you may know, fuel assistance
from LIHEAP and weatherization are already available through Central Vermont
Community Action Council (222-4963)
for Vermonters families who are at or below 125% of the Federal Poverty
Level. Help is also available through Roberta Howard, the Town Service
Officer. However, we know that funding for these programs will likely run
short by the end of winter and some families who deserve help earn just a
little too much to qualify for aid.
We're planning a fix that would work as follows:
1. If you are in need of help, we advise that you try to access CVCAC
(222-4963) first to see if you can use the existing programs. If that
doesn't work out, contact Roberta Howard (333-4607).
2. Through both of these options, we will try to meet families' fuel and
weatherization needs. We strongly encourage anyone who applies for fuel
to also use our help in reducing drafts and heat loss in your home, as the
benefits will last for years.
3. Volunteers will help with weatherization on a priority basis. You may see
immediate improvement after just one visit.
4. Funds for these efforts (beyond what's available through
CVCAC) will come from funds available through the Town Service Officer and from
donations from people in town.
5. If you would like to help with a donation you can write a check for a
charitable donation to the Thetford Emergency Fund and Food Shelf. Please indicate
that your donation is intended for fuel and weatherization. These
donations are tax deductible. Send your check to the Thetford Town Offices at
6. If you are willing to provide volunteer labor for weatherization, contact
Bob Walker at 785-4126.
We're
glad to help and hope you will too,
Charlie Buttrey, Bob Walker, Stuart Blood and Jim Masland
