Energy tip of the month
Drive at a steady
speed, using the highest gear possible to increases mileage and decrease
emissions.
If you're going on as short
trip-say from Thetford to Lebanon, as opposed to going from Thetford to NYC,
where you would look to save time-- stay at 60 mph. For every 5 mph you
drive over 60 mph, you reduce your fuel economy by 10%. So doing the currently
common 70 mph will cost you 20% in fuel efficiency--just to get to Lebanon!!!
Thetford Energy Committee may be obtaining a scan gauge
that can be hooked up to a vehicle to measure its fuel usage. Stay tuned.

DID YOU
KNOW? THETFORD HISTORY
Thetford has always
had a tradition of neighbor helping neighbor. How far back does that
tradition go? Well, in 1798, Rev. Asa Burton, the pastor at the First
Congregational Church and the man who would help found Thetford Academy in
1819, was invited by the state General Assembly to preach the opening sermon in
Windsor. Unfortunately, then as now, pastors weren't paid lavishly and
Rev. Burton, whose meager salary was frequently paid in produce, did not own
clothes suitable for the occasion. No matter -- several women joined
together to spin, weave, cut and tailor a suit, and Rev. Burton delivered the
sermon, dressed, it is said, more handsomely than anyone else at the gathering!
