SAVE  ENERGY  IN  THE  LAUNDRY  ROOM

Washing clothes in cold water saves energy on water heating. Wash full loads, and choose shorter cycle times for less soiled loads. When it’s stormy or too cold to hang laundry outside to dry, set up a drying rack by the wood stove or near the furnace.

Efficiency Vermont is offering rebates of up to $50 for purchases of Energy Star washing machines. This offer is good through December 31st. To learn more, visit their website at: www.efficiencyvermont.com

DID  YOU  KNOW?   THETFORD  HISTORY

Most residents of Thetford know it as the home of such accomplished writers as Grace Paley, Noel Perrin, and Anne Lindbergh.  But did you know that Thetford was also the home of a prominent 19th-century artist?  William Baxter Palmer Closson was born in Thetford in 1848, and graduated from Thetford Academy before moving to Boston, where he studied drawing at the Lowell Institute and went on to work for Harper's Magazine.  He went on to a career in wood engraving and painting, earning accolades in both the United States and Europe.  Seventeen of his paintings are in the American Art collection at the Smithsonian Institute.
